Vietnam Landscape

From North to South five landscapes are distinguished:
Yunnan Highlands: mountains in the north, which borders Vietnam and China and its highest mountain Phan-Xi-Pang (3144m). This region is inhabited by many ethnic minorities, with the city of Sa Pa at the foot of Phan-Xi-Pang attracting the most tourists.

The Red River Delta: fertile region around the capital, Hanoi (Ha Noi) extends to the Gulf Phan-Xi-Pangof Tonkin (Bac Bo). Tourist attractions here are the limestone mountains of Ninh Binh Province to the south of Hanoi, Halong Bay and the east of the capital.

Heude highlands: the mountainous, sparsely populated hinterlands of Central and South Vietnam’s ethnic minorities, especially settlement.

Annamese coast: the narrow, relatively densely populated coastal strip between the mountains and the South China Sea in Central and South Vietnam. The largest cities are Annam Hue and Da Nang.

Mekong Delta: fertile, densely populated alluvial plain, which lies on the northeastern border city of Thanh pho Ho Chi Minh (Ho Chi Minh City, Saigon until 1976).
