Vietnam war begins with the Americans

While in North Vietnam cancellation of the referendum was not an insurmountable hurdle. Its president Ho Chi Minh, Vo Nguyen Giap as Minister of Defense and the politburo, considered France’s independence as a further step in its long-term strategy. In the strategy to reunite the country by voting or by force would be the next step, and even more so with every subsequent domination of Indochina.

Fighting by the Vietcong began aided by the communist in the form of shipments of ammunition, weapons, food and other supplies by sea route. There were also some ground shipments in what later became the famous Ho Chi Minh, but Southern men initially took the lead assisted from the sea.

For its part, ARVN, the South Vietnamese Army, was very ineffective fighting in their own country.

Although the pros of the insurgents, the victories and the massive domination of territory occurred when the men came from the north (they are sometimes called soldiers EVN1), because despite how it may seem, not all South Vietnamese look kindly on the Communists.

Nor did the Viet Cong who relied heavily on its allies, and they did not fully overcome their resistance by obeying orders from Hanoi. For these reasons the South regime did not collapse, but every time ceded more territory.

In 1965, the year of direct U.S intervention, approximately 60% of the country was held by the Vietcong and had no expectations of a change in the trend because the initiative was in fighting the guerrillas and carrying soldiers from the North.
